He delights in me
When I look at my own children I am amazed that they belong to me. They are each amazing in their own way, with their own unique talents and personalities if they make a mistake or are struggling with something I would rather them come to me to talk it through knowing I will always love them and do my best to help them. I love them for who they are not what they do. Not that what they do isn’t important but if we base love off talents and behaviour it becomes conditional, and sometimes withheld more when someone behaves in a negative way. Loving someone for who they are is unconditional because who they are does not change and is based on their identity in Jesus.
On reading in Psalms 18:19, 147:11 and Zephaniah 3:17 how God delights in me, this is easier for me to comprehend when I look at how I feel about my own children. When I look at how my parents felt about me, I never felt delighted in, so in order to fully accept into my heart how God as my Father feels about me, I had to go right back to my core beliefs. I had to focus on all the things that God speaks over all his children. Our behaviour flows out of what we believe about ourselves and in order to thrive we need to fully align ourselves with our identity in Jesus.
I love Psalm 18 as a whole, it’s littered with promises of God for his children and if you ever doubt how the one who created you feels about you head to verse 19 where it says that he delights in you. Another way to describe how he feels about you is that he adores you, cherishes you, is captivated by you and elated whenever he thinks about you. Just meditate on that for a moment.
God himself rejoices over you, because you are his child and your faith is in Jesus. Psalms 147:11 says God delights in those who put their trust in him and their hope in his unfailing love. When you’re going through a dark season or a particular difficulty, yet still choose to put your trust and hope in him, God delights in you. Your trust and hope will lead you to breakthrough and answered prayer and God, who chooses to co-labour with his children is overjoyed when the trust and hope in him and their faith is rewarded.
I encourage you today to believe in your heart that God delights in you, right where you are, as you are. He loves you and adores you. He created you for this time and purpose. He adores and cherishes you always.
There is a song I love to listen to called, “I am Your Beloved”. Whenever I’m going through a season where I am feeling less worthy of love I will listen to this track and let the words wash over me and sing them out over myself. Click the link on the right of this page to have a listen.
Many blessings.
